“What is our point of support? Is it in ourselves or outside us? Are we self-poised, or does our balance depend on something external?” Thomas Troward
I was spending a morning reading Thomas Troward’s essay “Touching Lightly” when I had that ah-ha moment. The moment came after I read that quote above, and basically, what he’s asking if you are living, loving, and experiencing joy in life, but it’s conditional. Are you living life conditionally? Is your point of support, joy, fulfillment, and success inside of you, or are you looking outside of yourself to determine what your level of joy, achievement, and success is?
Where our point of support lives is an excellent question because, at some point or another, we get caught up in outside circumstances. It could be looking at a result that we don’t want, and allowing whatever that external circumstance is to influence how we feel. When we don’t feel great, our point of support is no longer inside of us. It begins resting outside of us. We are handing over our personal power to something that doesn’t belong to us.
“We can gradually grow into any condition we desire, provided we first make ourselves in habitual mental attitude the person who corresponds to those conditions.” Thomas Troward
I began to understand the point of support early in my coaching career. There were days when I would be driving to the office, and I would plan the day in my head. I would choose to have and create a fantastic day where no matter what happened, I was going to feel rock solid. On that drive, I created a sense of how I was going to feel, the experiences I would have, and the way that people would respond and interact with me. On those days, I thought I could conquer the world!
On the days when I was feeling lazy, I didn’t plan out my day or just wanted to blank out and drive to work; it would seem things would go haywire. I would have obstacles and interactions I didn’t plan on or respond to well, and at the end of the day, I would feel depleted.
You are God’s highest form of creation, a spiritual being in a body. There’s no limit to what you’re capable of creating, but you have got to stop letting the here-and-now influence how you feel and, therefore, your point of attraction and what you create.
When I was focusing and consciously choosing what kind of day I was going to have, my point of support was inside of me. I was not controlling the circumstances happening outside of me, but I was managing my level of vibration and my point of attraction. When you decide on what you want, you shift your vibration, and you begin attracting circumstances to you that are in harmony with how you feel.
If you are not choosing your point of support wisely, you’ll find yourself trying to control your external circumstances. Which if you’ve ever tried to do that you know it’s impossible, you can’t control external events. You can only control what’s inside of you, how you feel, and what you then attract to yourself.
If this resonates with you, I want to encourage you to begin making YOU your point of support. Start small and decide what kind of experiences you are going to have and how you are going to feel. When you are consciously doing this, in 30 days, you’ll notice that your level of joy will grow exponentially, and it will begin to manifest in your external results. What you’re creating inside of you is no longer dependent on anything else. You become the boss of you, you create your circumstances and live a life by design.
