Aloha – I hope you’re having an amazing day so far. Today I woke up a little bit later than I intended and today was literally back-to-back to back appointments. I did get my meditation in this morning. I did express my gratitude for the day. Yes, I did focus on my goal and my self-image. But I found myself from the moment I got up, until very recently, feeling like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off.
I remember feeling that way one time when I was talking to a mentor and friend, the fabulous Peggy McCall. I remember approaching her, talking about a book writing and I said, “I feel like I’m all over the place. I’m running around like a chicken with my head cut off doing this, that, the other thing, and I can’t get focused.” She asked me one very simple and powerful question that shifted me in an instant, and I just remembered it now.
She just said, “What if you didn’t feel that way?”
Wait, what? Powerful and understated … “What if you didn’t feel that way??” It’s such a simple question, but it stopped me in my tracks. And so today I had to ask myself, what if I didn’t feel like I was running in 12 different directions? Today I’ve had appointments since early this morning. I squeezed in a quick workout, and I haven’t even had time to jump in the shower yet. I still have other things I want to do and multiple appointments after this. But I had to stop myself and just say, what if I didn’t feel like that?
What if I didn’t feel like I was running around in different directions and scattered? How would I feel?
Well, I would feel in control of my day. I would feel at ease. I would feel like the CEO of my company. I would feel like an organized and fantastic entrepreneur who serves people, who is clearheaded. I can feel a difference in my energy just by saying that.
So when you feel like you’re kind of bouncing around, like you’re letting circumstances bounce you around, I invite you to take control of how you feel. Stop yourself and just ask yourself, “Well, what if I didn’t feel like that?” If you’re angry about something or irritated about something, ask yourself, “What if I wasn’t angry and irritated? How would I rather feel?” And then choose it. There’s so much power when you shine the light of awareness on how you’re feeling in the moment and you own it and then you ask yourself a really simple and powerful question.

Whenever you feel like circumstances or your mood are controlling you and you’re not in control of you, ask yourself, “How would I rather feel? What if I didn’t feel this way? What way would I choose to feel?” You’ll be shocked at how quickly you shift. And when you do, you’ll have more clarity, you’ll get more done, you’ll be more connected with the people around you.
